Special Collections


The Lancaster County Library houses collections of unique and rare materials dealing primarily with history and genealogy. Items include published works, microfilm, and vertical files of collected and contributed research.

Manuscripts

Special Collections holds Manuscript Collections significant to the history of Lancaster County. These collections include letters, ledgers, scrapbooks, and other materials created by individuals, private groups, and businesses.

Maps

The Library houses a Map Collection that documents the early development of South Carolina, the Waxhaws, and Lancaster and Lancaster County. Most are reproductions or copies of originals.

Newspapers

The Library maintains the most complete collection of Lancaster County newspapers possible. All existing local Newspapers have been filmed and are available outside the Caroliniana Room.

Prints and Photographs

The Library holds a collection of Prints and Photographs significant to the history of Lancaster County. Finding aids for some collections are available in the Caroliniana Room.

Rare Books

The Library's collection of rare books contains items of historical and genealogical interest from the eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth centuries. These materials are listed in the Library's Online Catalog.
